The security of the "stand-alone" or "freestanding" type of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) typically situated in petrol stations, supermarkets etc., takes the form of crime reduction guidance aimed at reducing the risks of crime on the premises where such ATM's are installed.
Risk Assessment :

In order to ensure the correct level of security for a site to be determined, it is essential that all interested parties carry out a thorough risk assessment before utilizing security guidelines.
Insurance :

Before installation of a "stand-alone" ATM the premises owner is strongly advised to inform his Insurer so that they can advise their minimum-security requirements for the premises in view of the additional risk presented.

Security Measures :

Following a risk assessment, decide upon which, how many and in what combination, the security measures need to be employed during Cash Removal, Cash Replenishment and Servicing of ATMs.
